There’s no place like home…
We are finally back from a long but wonderful three months in Spain! My husband and I went with my parents to learn spanish and also to meet some of my relatives. It was a great time and here are some of the highlights from the trip…
We went on a hike through rows and rows of olive trees…it was beautiful and so peaceful.
One of the many neat things we were able to experience was Semana Santa (Holy Week) during Easter. Every day there would be processions of the brothers from a church, and the procession included bands, Nazarenos (those robed and cloaked fellows below) and huge floats that carried statues of Jesus and different Saints and the Virgin Mary. Some of these processions would last up to 13 hours, and the Nazarenos would walk the whole way. It was a very moving and spiritual time in Sevilla. Here is a Nazareno giving wax to a child from his candle. The kids would run around collecting wax and forming them into balls.

We spent a few days in Portugal, which was just a hop and a skip away from Sevilla. We took a boat tour to a uninhabited island off the coast. These were the only buildings on the island; some bright blue fisherman storage shacks.
Of course, we couldn’t be in Spain and not see a bullfight….we actually enjoyed it more than we thought we would. The highlight was definitely when one of the Matadors got trampled twice by a bull… it was pretty intense! It was amazing how he just got up after and finished the fight with his clothes ripped and bloody from the bulls horns.
One of the many beautiful bridges that span the Guadalquivir river in Sevilla. We would often walk along it when we came from downtown to our house.
This is my cute little dad and the Malaga shoreline.
One weekend we went to Morocco with the school. It was amazing to experience this country. The people were friendly, the food was sooo good and there were hundreds of things I could have photographed all day long. I love this shot with the old Moroccan men with their colorful robes hanging out in front of the palace.
Here we are in a restuarant in Tangier having an authentic Moroccan meal….mmm…couscous…
It was a fantastic trip, but it sure was nice to come back to our own home and our kitties whom we dearly missed! Now its time to catch up on some blogging! Ah it feels good to be back to work..
